I thought now would be a good time to let you in on a little secret. Not only do I have a slight furniture addiction, but I also have an obsession with vintage globes. I am going to share about these “amazing finds of global proportions.”
I remember how it all started, I purchased my first vintage globe at goodwill with plans to put it in my children’s bedroom. Can you believe that I actually changed my mind and tried to return it!!! I know, all of my vintage globe loving friends are now shaking their heads in disbelief, but I did eventually find the perfect spot for it on my hubby’s dresser. After that I was hooked. and now my collection has grown to include this big boy.
It is a Denoyer Geppert Company Aviation Globe. These globes were sometimes used in WWII to help map out flight plans. What an amazing piece of history.
At one time I found one on eBay going for $500.00!!!
I won mine at a local auction and only paid $5.00! Here it is next to my SUV, it is almost as big as the tires!
Here it is next to another one of my globes. I actually haven’t found a good spot for it yet, but I will eventually!
I also have these guys. They hang out on top of the lockers I won at the same auction.
This cool dude it actually a bank. I bought it for a few bucks at the local mission.
Then there is this little guy. I think I paid a buck for him at a flea market. I love the uniqueness of it.
This is my hubby’s favorite. A wooden globe from Italy.
It has a lot of character and detail and is in great shape. I found it at the local mission and my Hubby has already claimed it for his office.
I am not really sure what it is about vintage globes that draws my attention. Maybe it is the colors, the memories of my childhood, or owning small piece of history. Either way, I will continue to search for globes to add to my collection. Do you collect anything? I would love to hear about it! Feel free to leave a comment below, thanks for reading!
