The Big Black Wall and Our Wood Stove

We have been using a wood stove to heat our home for the past few years.  Using just electric heat for a house that is approx. 5000 sq. ft can be REALLY expensive (we learned that the first year we moved in) and since my husband owns a tree business, (free wood) using an alternative heat source is the perfect choice for us.  My goal this past month was to “play up” the area we have our wood stove installed.  Enter, The Big Black Wall.

Our Home Building Story

In May of 2006, we started the ultimate DIY project and broke ground for our home.  We did 99.9% of the work ourselves without acquiring a load of debt.  We have taken tons of pictures throughout the past 9 years…yes, you read that right, 9 years and over the next few months I plan to share our home building story, every juicy detail, the good and the bad and the ugly.house pic
