Hello everyone, I hope you all had an enjoyable summer! I would like to think that this has been one of the more enjoyable summers by far. I don’t know if it is because the kids are older or if I am just learning to sit and just enjoy the time we spend together. Our days were filled with trips to the pool, swimming lessons, cookouts and home projects. This is my Summer Progress Report so to speak, to give you a glimpse of what we have been working on and why I have been MIA these past few months.
If you remember, this is where we left off. This is our family room, toy room and homework space and pretty much where the kids will be spending the majority of their time for years to come.
We had metal shelving manufactured from the same company that created the pieces for our stairs. They weigh a ton, and we used a four-wheeler jack to hold them in place while we bolted them to the walls. (When I say “we” I mean Shawn, I just helped a little.) They are very sturdy, so no matter how many books or toys I stack on them, I don’t have to worry about the shelves bowing over time. They fit nicely with the industrial vibe we have going on in the house.
As much as I would like to let you believe that this room is still nice and tidy and no evidence that children ever exist in this room, that would be a big fat lie. At this moment, there are books and toys in various stages of organization all over the place. I am attempting to prep the space for homework, play, and TV time. It can be a bit tricky to find ways to store Nerf guns and barbie dolls in a way that doesn’t take way from the how nice the room is.
I found this rug for a steal and bought two of them, but once I rolled them out, I ended up not liking it for this room. I think it might be the pattern that hits me wrong, because I love the color. I have since found another one that is a bit more modern and goes well with the couches. A dear friend of ours gave us these bad boys and we love them!!!
I gave this huge dresser a makeover, and my wonderful husband hauled it upstairs to use as storage to hold the TV.
I am very pleased with how well it looks now, but it didn’t seem right it in the family room. So, I sold it to my neighbor who now uses it in her kitchen as a buffet.
We installed some lighting also. These were pendants I found at IKEA and repainted white. My hubby rewired them to hang from the ceiling. I think they were only $15.00.
The kids have been enjoying our new chalkboard wall.
I found this bench at my local mission and painted it white. I used almost a whole container of wood filler, it was in such bad shape. The kids want a Lego table, so I just need to glue some flat green pieces to the top and it will be done.
I finished my office floors and painted the walls. Trim is up and so is my new office door, which I don’t have a pic of, computer problems again, but if you follow me on Instagram you can see it there. Anyway, I am considering painted the ceiling a very light pink. I also have an old fireplace mantle that I hope to mount on the wall for a little something special. My office is slowly becoming my favorite space and I can’t wait to be able to sit and work in it.
I found this laminate table at goodwill before school was out for the summer and knew it would be perfect as a homework table. I painted it during summer break, and it turned out well but I learned a few things during the process and look forward to sharing them with you. Some of the chairs I found during my Tour De Junk 2016 will look great around this table when I am done painting and recovering them.
Some of my articles have been performing well on Pinterest. My Nerf Gun Party gets pinned about 50 times a week!! So amazing, and my tutorial on our DIY Plywood Floors is still going strong. I hope this year to grow my readership on my blog so thank you in advance for following along and sharing on social media, I can’t wait to share more with you in the coming months, say a prayer for my computer, it needs it!!
